February 4th is World Cancer Day to raise global cancer awareness.
At LS CancerDiag, our purpose is to provide reliable and easy-to-access diagnostics for Lynch syndrome and promote awareness about hereditary cancer risks. Guided by our values of creating and sharing knowledge, one of our leading missions in cancer care is to empower families and healthcare professionals to make better-informed decisions.
Therefore, we want to support global initiatives like World Cancer Day, seeking concrete actions to reduce cancer mortality rates. World Cancer Day is led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to raise global cancer awareness. The initiative aims to, e.g., improve education and catalyze personal, collective, and government action – to strive together to prevent cancer deaths and ensure access to life-saving cancer treatment and equitable care for all, all of which is very much aligned with our own mission. Created in 2000, World Cancer Day has grown into a positive movement for everyone to unite under one voice to face one of the most significant challenges in history. The United Nations observes the day.
World Cancer Day is an initiative of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). It is a registered non-profit association that encourages cancer prevention, detection, and treatment to support the goals of the World Cancer Declaration, written in 2008. Hundreds of activities and events take place worldwide – creating a powerful reminder that everyone has a role to play in reducing the global impact of cancer.
While we live amidst advancements in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, many who seek cancer care still hit barriers. Income, education, geographical location, and discrimination based on ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, and lifestyle are just a few of the factors that can negatively affect care.
This year’s World Cancer Day theme, “Close the Care Gap” is about sparking conversations and provoking deeper dialogue to eliminate health inequities by addressing their root causes and ensuring everyone can access quality health services when, where, and how needed. Unfortunately this is also still a reality in the field of Lynch syndrome, and we aim to contribute to the elimination of that gap with our solutions.
